If you’re like me and are unlucky enough to live in a cold weather region in the northern hemisphere, this time of year can be a bit depressing. What gets to me most about winter is how long it can last. The first snowfall of the year is always beautiful, but after a couple of months I always find myself dreaming of sunshine and flip flops. I’m a big believer in taking action against misery rather than stewing in it, so I’ve compiled a list of 4 warm weather poker vacation spots. Hopefully this will provide a glimmer of hope in the face of the frigid winter ahead of us.
Paradise Island, Bahamas
The PokerStars Championship Bahamas takes place from January 6-14. Every year most of the world’s best poker pros head down here for the high stakes tournament action. Can you blame them? If you’re not a high roller, don’t worry! There are smaller buy-in tournaments as well as cash games taking place as well. Also, you’ll be in the Bahamas in January while your colleagues are back home scraping ice off their wind shields. Can’t really go wrong here.

St Julian’s, Malta
I recently spent 8 days in Malta covering the EPT. The Portomaso casino in St.Julian’s runs great cash games and daily tournaments all year round and the weather stays warm and sunny throughout ‘winter’. It’s also relatively cheap compared to other tourist destinations in Europe and the locals are incredibly friendly and speak English.
